We’re still looking for two of the six two way radio walkie-talkies that we use in the front and back of our caravans of club cars going as a group to shows. If any member has a radio at home please give it to Jim Varns.
Our scheduled speakers for 2016 are:
March: Kevin O’Rourke and Ken Carr discussing “Radios and Radio Collecting”.
April: Dave Calabrese will explain “AACA Judging”
August: Lee Ratliff will give us his recollections of “Life on the Road with Evel Knievel”
October: Gerry Lynn makes the presentation "As The Wrench Turns: Experiences with my old car and local repair
shops."
Welcome New Member CHUCK CARVETTE!
We look forward to meeting Chuck at an upcoming club night. He drives a 1937 Packard 115-C convertible and a 1952 Willys Jeep.
What Does the Club Do?
As it turns out, a lot. We’ve got a typically busy year scheduled for 2016. It starts out with Kevin O’Rourke’s dustoff cruise to the Herreshoff Museum (boats, not cars for a change!) to Bristol, RI on April 22. Get your car ready early and if you have problems give Ton Link a call to set up a Gaslight team visit to help you out.
A second trip to RI will soon follow on April 28 to the Audrain Museum in Newport. Soon after we have a visit scheduled to Cardone and Daughter in Old Saybrook, CT on April 30 to help them kick off the grand opening of their new garage. This year, for the first time, we have the Barrett-Jackson auction extravaganza coming to the Mohegan Sun on June 23-25. Start pre-warming your checkbooks!
Three of our usual travel shows are already set up: Rhinebeck, NY on May 6-8, Syracuse, NY on July 15-17, and Hershey, PA on October 3-8 (note that we arrive early for this one). New potential events that are under consideration are the Saratoga, NY car show on May 15, the Vermont State Fairgrounds R.A.V.E. Car Show on July 9-10, and a car show at the Shelbourne, VT Museum on June 3-5.
Our old standby day trips shows will include the wonderful show at the Klingberg Family Center in New Britain, CT on June 18, a choice of the Time Machines show in Guilford, CT OR the Goddard Park, RI show on July 24, the Belltown, East Hampton, CT show on August 7 and again, a choice of shows at Southbury, CT OR Norwich, CT on September 16. Other shows being considered are Portsmouth Abbey on June 19 and the LaSalette Shrine on August 28.
We will once again be the best entertainment at the North Stonington Fair on July 16 and the Washington County Fair on August 17. The North Stonington Memorial Day parade is looking forward to us highlighting their event on May 30. We don’t have a date yet for our only nursing home event at the Apple Rehab in Westerly but plan for around the second week in September.
The grand cruise nights at the Pavilion Restaurant are back on and are scheduled to kick off on Friday, May 13, 2016. Be sure to read the recent article about the Pavilion in the Westerly Sun that features several of our club members . John Hodis will keep us apprised of this and other RI cruise nights including the Westerly, High Street event which should be back by popular demand. It’s a great cruise night by the way. Cruise nights are scheduled everywhere so be sure to check out event fliers, our newsletter and website calendars for more complete coverage.
These are the highlights of our year’s activities. Specific details for all these events will be covered at our meetings, our website calendar and in upcoming newsletters. I know I’ve missed mentioning some events so keep your own calendar and remind us what we missed. If you have questions please contact me, Bill Ricker or Don Oster about event specifics. If your car is burping when it's supposed to be humming give the Gaslighters a call (i.e., Tom Link).
