Announcements:
We will have a special guest speaker at our March meeting. Stve Rossi, a contributing editor for the AACA magazine, will give a talk titled “How the West Won.” He’s going to discuss the contributions New England made to the development of the early auto industry from 1885 to 1925. Rolls-Royce in Springfield, MA and Locomobile in Bridgeport, CT come to mind; but, he’s sure to tell us about other contributors.
Recent Club Events
In January we had a social dinner at Mystic Pizza II instead of a regular meeting. It was well attended and everyone enjoyed themselves but we’ll be looking for a different venue next year due to space problems there.
Upcoming Events
Dust off cruise: Our annual dust off cruise to warm up our engines. This is a one day cruise in our area held on a week end day in April. We are looking for a member to organize this event. Kevin O”Rourke has done a wonderful job in this role in the pas but he had to decline this year because of other responsibilities.
Rhinebeck trip: Don Oster has booked six rooms at the New Quality Inn of Hyde Park. The trip date is May 5-7, 2017. http://www.rhinebeckcarshow.com/swaps.html This has always been a big show, swap and car coral to start off the season.
North Stonington Memorial Day Parade Monday May 29th
Klingberg Show New Britain CT Sat. June 17 The day before Fathers’ Day
Syracuse trip July 14-16, 2017 Right Coast Syracuse nationals. Don Oster and jim Vars are the organizers and we will be staying at the Best Western hotel at Carrier Circle http://www.rightcoastcars.com/syracuse-nationals.php
North Conway NH Show will be the first weekend after Labor Day. If you are interested in attending please contact Don Oster. Dates are September 8-11.
Hershey PA 2017: AACA fall show swap and car coral in October: We will be staying at the Day’s Inn. Dave Calabrese has made all the reservations on his credit card. Each person will be able to pay on the day of arrival. Six rooms for twelve people have been reserved.
WPRAACA Hub Tour for 2017: This is still in the planning stages. We will likely be staying at the Western Inn in Stowe, Vermont. The general idea for this initial event is to stay in Stowe, VT and take a few day trips to nearby attractions or events. Anyone willing to help plan this event is welcome to join in.
Cruise Nights
Unfortunately, the three regular weekly cruise nights in South County are in limbo. With the closing and possible sale of the Pavilion in Ashaway and the passing of former member John Hodis who ran all three cruise nights we don’t have any good alternatives at this point. Cheryl Hodis has expressed interest in continuing to run one of the cruises if she gets so help from club members. How about we step up to keep cruise nights running in southern RI.
Peggy Varas is also checking into local nursing homes that might want to host a club cruise night.
