Gaslighters
The Gaslighters are a group of club members who help fellow members solve their classic vehicle problems. They travel to the club member's house and will diagnose, make recommendations, and, if possible, repair the problem. The group will generally tackle any problem that does not involve a major repair such as an engine or transmission rebuild.
The Gaslighters coordinator, Tom Link, may be contacted at 401-782-4476.

New member, Mario Atoyan (Merril Moone’s son-in-law) asked for some help to get Merril’s Model A Tudor running again. Tom Link, Norm Lagerstrom , and Frank Jensen met with Mario at Merril’s house to help.
The car would turn over but would not start. Norm, who has a beautiful Model A truck, checked and reset the timing using the timing pin on the front of the engine and set the points to just start opening at top dead center with the manual advance lever fully retarded.
Next we used a conductivity tester that Tom had devised to check the ignition circuitry. When that proved good, we checked for spark by removing a spark plug and laying the threaded section on the engine block to ground it. We noticed that the plug had spark but it was “weak”. After some discussion that ignition condensers usually fail completely to produce spark if they are bad, we replaced the condenser anyway with one that Norm had in his inventory. WALAH, It started right up with a healthy spark!
Frank advanced the manual spark lever and discussed the use of it with Mario. Mario moved the car out of the storage garage. After letting it warm up, it ran like a top!
With Tom’s many years of repair experience and some experience with Model A’s by Norm and a little by Frank, we had a good time helping Mario getting her running well again. Apologies for the lack of pictures; I guess we were just too engrossed in the task at hand.
